Residence

Students who had obtained their degree and who want to specialize in plastic surgery do their first steps to become plastic surgeons at the Plastic Surgery Department at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and Hospital del Mar.

The Residency Training Program lasts five years and when resident doctors join in the service, they are considered and treated as team members.

The Purpose of the program

The aim of the program is providing residents progressive responsibility and the fullest possible experience in all areas of plastic surgery so that in the future they will be able to perform their specialty in the various health services, according to the needs of the population.

After this period, the resident will be able to prioritize the physical, psychologic social well-being of patients before any other consideration. Furthermore, the resident will be sensitive to the ethical and legal principles of the professional practice.

As a doctor, the resident has to take care of the relationship with the patient and his environment.

As a doctor, the resident has to maintain a critical attitude to assess the effectiveness and the cost of the procedures performed and he will be able to demonstrate his interest in continued training.

As a scientist, the resident has to take decisions based on objective criteria and he has to display an attitude of collaboration with other professionals.

Specific Objectives

All residents are encouraged to participate in research and the department help the resident present lectures at regional and national meetings.

Fully equipped laboratories are available for research in microsurgery, wound healing, craniofacial growth and development, computer imaging, and fat grafting.
