Barcelona Biomedical Research Park Foundation (PRBB)

The Barcelona Biomedical Research Park Foundation is a joint entity with the Foundations of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), the Municipal Institute of Medical Research (IMIM) and Centre for Genome Regulation (CRG). These three research institutions form the scientific hub of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park. It includes a total of 45 biomedical research groups that cover relevant scientific subjects, ranging from molecular to population studies. At the PRBB, the main scientific base is complemented with private companies from the sector that develops new drugs. The PRBB Foundation coordinates the activities of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) in the areas of scientific support, communication and business development.

The PRBB's values are:

  • State of the art and internationally competitive biomedical research.
  • A first-rate infrastructure.
  • A critical mass of approximately 1,000 people, directly or indirectly working on biomedical research.
  • Connection with the Hospital del Mar - IMAS.
  • Local and international networks: Barcelona Biomedical Alliance (Barcelona Science Park and IDIBAPS), international research institutes and pharmaceutical companies.

The PRBB Foundation was constituted on 22nd June 2002 by the UPF, IMIM and CRG Foundations, following prior agreement between the higher entities in question. It is chaired by Professor Rosa Viros, Rector of the UPF; other ex-officio members of its board are the Honorable Council member, Carles Sola, President of the CRG Foundation, and Sr. José I. Cuervo, 4th Deputy to the Mayor of Barcelona City Council and President of the IMIM Foundation. The Director of the PRBB Foundation is Dr. Jordi Camí.
