Electrothermocoagulation is a procedure of selective destruction of small areas of brain tissue by the passage of a controlled electric current through deep electrodes implanted by SEEG. While this is a palliative procedure used when resective surgery is not possible, in some cases it can lead to seizures and prevent surgery. The procedure is simple and painless and is done through the microelectrodes used for SEEG. With a radiofrequency generator system a millimeter lesion is created in the brain tissue that in some cases manages to control or reduce the frequency of seizures (Fig. 1). Our center has been a pioneer in the use of this technique in Spain and we have obtained favorable results in up to 10 to 20% of cases that have avoided a posterior surgery (Fig. 2).
