UDIMAS. Faculty of Medicine. Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

The Teaching Unit of the Municipal Healthcare Institute (Unitat Docent de l'Institut Municipal d'Assistència Sanitària: UDIMAS), is the Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of Barcelona Autonomous University, which is based at the Hospital del Mar. The training of students who are studying Medicine is carried out in UDIMAS's own facilities, with practical work being done in the different services of the Hospital del Mar, the Hospital de l'Esperança and at approved Primary Healthcare Centres.

The Faculty of Medicine's Teaching Unit has been a vital stimulus for making the Hospital. progressively more academic. UDIMAS teaches 264 students of the 3rd, 4th and 5th years of the Medicine degree, and has over 97 teachers from the Hospitals del Mar and de l'Esperança. The academic board of UDIMAS, which includes representatives of the different teaching areas, students and administrative staff, has set in motion an ambitious project of progressively integrating the student into the Hospital. This encourages practical teaching and self-study, with the aim of stimulating active learning and the maximum involvement of the students in their learning process.

Apart from its university degree teaching, UDIMAS promotes the knowledge of Health Sciences with ongoing training courses and support for the development of Master's Degrees and Diploma courses.

This Teaching Unit has been a pioneer in the introduction of new study methodologies, having created the first clinical skills class of the Faculty of Medicine.
