University Nursing School del Mar
The School began its work in 1975 teaching studies to become a Healthcare Assistant. In the academic year 1977-1978, it received approval to become a University Nursing School, affiliated to the University of Barcelona, and it started teaching for the Diploma in Nursing (RD 795/1978 17th February, BOE no. 271). University Nursing School del Mar, linked to the Municipal Healthcare Institute (IMAS), is a teaching centre that has been affiliated to the Pompeu Fabra University since the academic year 2005-2006.
The aim of the School is to offer academic studies for the Diploma in Nursing following existing plans, as well as to contribute to the ongoing training of nursing staff at IMAS centres.
Its graduate training programme has the aim of training professional nurses in any field in which they carry out their work.
Nursing training should be understood as a process that broadens learning and specialises in nursing treatment.
This training helps the student acquire and develop the professional and general skills necessary to become expert nurses, capable of developing good relationships with patients and colleagues and of working in a team. Capable of developing the role of a trainer, of managing resources, of critically assimilating the research into health- and social sciences and of promoting her/his own self-tuition throughout her/his professional life.
