Although used less frequently, we can also use the inner aspect of thighs as a donor site in breast reconstruction.
In some women there is not enough abdominal tissue to create a new breast but instead, there is an excess skin and fat in the upper inner thighs, above the gracilis muscle.
This muscle is completely dispensable in people who do not engage in extreme sport activities with high demand on lower limbs muscles.
The resulting scar will be well hidden in the perineal crease and in many patients an aesthetic effect of a thigh-lift is achieved.
The surgery lasts about 4 to 5 hours and requires a hospital stay of approximately 4 days.
